Glazing products are everywhere. Whether it be the glass partitions in your office or the windows in your kitchen, there is no escaping glass. With all that glass surrounding you, have you ever stopped to think “how safe is this window?” or “I wonder if that glass in the conference room is sound…” Luckily there are organizations like the Safety Glazing Certification Council providing for the certification of safety glazing materials like the ones manufactured at Kensington Glass Arts, Inc.

Historically, glass companies in the United States could conduct their own in-house tests and as a result “self-certify.” By self-certifying, a company could conduct their own testing in-house and then claim the glass to be sufficiently tempered, while other companies were paying a laboratory of their choosing to test their products there was a conflict of interest and that is how the SGCC was born. In 1971 SGCC was formed by safety glazing manufacturers and other groups concerned with public safety. The SGCC created a certification program where manufacturers of safety glazing products can submit their products for testing to a certified SGCC-approved testing lab. The testing requirements used in the SGCC program are consistent with those established by ANSI (American National Standards Institute), CPSC (US Consumer Product Safety Commission), CFR (Council on Foreign Relations) and CAN/CGSB (Canadian General Standards Board).

KGa is an SGCC certified manufacturer of safety glazing products. What does that mean? Well, an SGCC certification assures our clientele that we produce the safest glazing products. To ensure we are continually meeting the standards set forth by SGCC, our products are audited twice a year and those results are available to the public on SGCC’s website. The certification process includes an onsite visit by an SCGG auditor to review our daily internal test data, work process and records and then selects samples to be shipped to a testing facility for more comprehensive sample testing, leading the certification renewal. KGa’s commitment to safety extends beyond the shop but carries through to our product. Now, while sitting in a conference room full of glass walls produced by KGa you can take comfort in knowing that your safety was thought about throughout the manufacturing process.
