Computer Controlled Glass Cutting
High quality finished glass products start with quality, accurate cuts at the beginning. Our computerized cutting systems batch same-type glass orders together to optimize yield, resulting in less waste product going into landfills. The optimized batches are cut on a computer controlled glass scoring line, where consistent, uniform pressure to the cutting head creates an even score which breaks out clean and true, much better than can be done by hand. From cut size pieces, the glass progresses to the next step in the fabrication process.
Cleaning
If the cut glass is to be tempered with no additional edgework, the glass is simply seamed and sent through our state of the art washing system which thoroughly cleans both sides and air-dries the glass so there are no imperfections to get baked into the glass during tempering.
Polished Edges
Most fabricators can polish the edges of glass but there is a difference when it comes to clarity. Most straight line polishing machines only grind and buff the polished edge. Our uses an additional set of polishing wheels which use felt polishing wheels with cerium oxide which makes a brighter and more optically refined edge.
Hole Drilling
We use large format tube drills that are actually two drills in one. The first drill rises from below into bottom of the glass and the second drills from above. This way there is no tear-out as the top bit completes the hole which comes out in a “plug,” leaving the drilled edges clean.
V-Grooving
A relatively uncommon technique in architectural glass-working, “V-grooving” is an age-old technique utilizing a grinding wheel to cut into the glass surface, not unlike wheel cut crystal stemware. We use a computer controlled cutting wheel on a flat plotter to scribe and polish patterns into the glass surface. The design possibilities are endless!
CNC Cutting
Our CNC fabrication capability allows us to fabricate glass to extremely accurate tolerances. We can work from your DXF files and create finished pieces that are exact size, plus or minus one tenth of a millimeter. This is useful not only for special shapes, but is often required when we are making exact size rectangles for furniture, exhibit or back-painted glass wall panels.
Hand Work
While it’s possible to automate many aspects of glass fabrication, there are still some steps that are better done by hand using traditional tools. Our craftsmen are magicians. They make notching, shaping and cutting intricate and precise glass pieces look easy. If it can be made in glass, we can do it!
More
There are many more fabrication options, from sandblasting to carving to colored or patterned films that may be the perfect solution for your particular need. We have all the product and process information and the experience to make sure your project comes together correctly. We are expert in guiding our clients through this maze of possibilities and have been very successful in solving many diverse design and performance challenges.
