Kensington Glass Arts Incorporated (KGa) began in 1976 as Victorian Glassworks, a small stained glass studio. With time and a lot of hard work, the original partners grew the business to include etched and carved glass and the traditional themes of the early design work evolved to a unique, more contemporary design style and sensibility. In 1987 the ownership changed and the company was rebranded as Kensington Glass Arts, Inc. (KGa). Over the next ten years the work continued to evolve into glass installations of all types including art pieces, museum casework and glass for commercial office and residential projects. In the early 1990’s the focus shifted to exclusively commercial installations. In response to the increased need to control quality and schedule for fabricated materials, KGa started a new manufacturing facility in 2002. At this facility, glass is processed from raw stock sheet glass to finished architectural products. Cutting, polishing, shaping and tempering are all now executed in house. This factory fabricates most of the glass that is installed by KGa as well as sells product to outside customers. Not only is it one of the largest fabrication facilities in the DC area, it also has the largest glass tempering oven in the state of Maryland.
Now in our thirty-sixth year, KGa is now the premier installer of glass in high-end interior architecture in the DC area. This includes law firms, corporate offices, associations and hospitality work. In addition, we have done some exciting lobby renovations and exterior building envelopes. Glass doors, full height glass walls and windows are the typical elements for this type of work. While many of these projects have artistic components and specialty materials and methods, the current range of our work is broader than ever before. KGa primarily focuses on quality project management and manufacturing excellence.
In addition, KGa maintains a Commercial Service Division whose mission is to repair, maintain or replace damaged or broken glass, hardware and framing in commercial environments. We service what we install and believe in making “Customers for Life.”
We are located in Ijamsville, in the Maryland countryside. On average, KGa employs seventy five staff members.
